There used to be a smoky pressed dianhong cake YS used to sell 10 years ago that was to the closest thing I've tasted to bacon. The golden tipped assams I never add milk, it doesn't taste good with it.

On the question of genetics- both are Camellia sinensis var assamica so I'm not sure what genetic differences have evolved between trees in dianhong(Fengqing/Lincang) vs Assam. Fascinating question. But if we were to taste hundreds of teas, the maltiness of assam and dianhong are the closest I've seen.hsterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13118616887446192686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21945233.post-48855485684440696762020-01-15T08:08:28.948-08:002020-01-15T08:08:28.948-08:00They're different things to me. The Assam would get milk and maybe be used to wash down breakfast, while dianhong would be something I'd drink plain.

I have wondered at how different dianhong is from Assam orthodox tea, and to what extent the differences are due to processing v. cultivation v. plant genetics.Aardvark Cheeseloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09451603275061815857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21945233.post-7516877800137509742020-01-10T14:18:21.317-08:002020-01-10T14:18:21.317-08:00Dear Sir Aardvark,

Do you like it better than golden dianhong?

H

hsterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13118616887446192686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21945233.post-63020709940414535402020-01-08T09:44:48.338-08:002020-01-08T09:44:48.338-08:00I recently went through a bunch of Assam samplers ...I recently went through a bunch of Assam samplers from various vendors looking for something for a routine morning cup and finally settled on this stuff, which at about $0.13/g by the kg is not expensive tea at all.Aardvark Cheeseloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09451603275061815857noreply@blogger.com
